The future is bright

With the draft done and free agency about to start, the future looks bright for the Islanders.  With Kyle Okposo hopefully becoming a 35-40 goal scorer and now John Tavares also putting up a serious amount of goals.  The future looks bright.  With Mark Streit putting up 55+ points and Josh Bailey making progress as years go bye.  Down the line or maybe a slim this year we might see Calvin de Haan as an Islander.  With Okposo and now Tavares people might forget about Frans Nielson or Blake Comeau.  I really do not see Comeau becoming a major threat offensively but a nice player that could drill people.

S0 what should we expect this year from the Islanders.  I would say a better year but far from the playoffs.  We are still to young and do not have enough players to get it done.  But for now we could just focus on John Tavares and free agency on Wed.

Coming soon - what to expect in free agency for the Islanders

Calvin de Haan wants to play in NHL this year

In a recent interview Calvin de Haan said he wants to play in the NHL this year.

Q. Do you have any anticipation about next year, do you see yourself playing junior again?
CALVIN DE HAAN: I would like to play in the NHL right away, that would be obviously a dream come true, but I don’t think another year or two in junior, it wouldn’t hurt my development at all. I actually wouldn’t mind playing in Oshawa again.

I think the right thing and the best thing to do is let Calvin play in juniors this year.  Let him get stronger and work on his play.  There is no reason why the Islanders have to rush him.

Also Chris Botta from islanderspointblank reported that recent draft pick  Mikko  ( 31st overall ) might play for Bridgeport this upcoming season.  It does not seem like Peter Mannino is returning and Koskinen might take his place.
