Yesterday the Islanders signed Dwayne Roloson. A goalie from the Edmonton Oilers. Roloson is 39 but he is the veteran that GM Garth Snow wanted. Roloson carried the Oilers this past season, some say he was the most valuable player. Roloson does not mind playing behind Rick Dipietro because he knows that he will get playing time. Roloson was signed to a 2 year deal worth 5 mill total. 2.5 per season is not a bad deal for the Islanders. After the two years the Islanders hope that one of their recent rookies that they have drafted will be ready to step in and take the backup role. Here is a look at Roloson’s numbers this past season.

But for Garth Snow there is still work to be done. Almost all teams in the Eastern Conference have signed fighters or tough guys besides the Islanders. The Islanders need to have a guy to protect Tavares and Okposo and the others. I like the ” Wrecker ” but I’m not sure the Islanders think he is ready to play in the NHL.
July 1st was a exciting day for all hockey fans. Watching their favorite teams go or not go after players. GM Garth Snow said do not expect a big splash in free agency and so far he is sticking to his word. There always could be trades and other free agent signings down the road. I would not get your hopes up about the Islanders trading for a star like Heatley or Kessel. Look for the Islanders to sign or trade for a tough guy, cause in the East you will need one if not two.
