Recap of the JT press conference

(L-R) General Manager Garth Snow, John Tavares and Coach Scott Gordon of the New York Islanders pose during a press conference on July 8, 2009 at the Nassau Coliseum in Uniondale, New York.

In front of a huge crowd this afternoon the Islanders formerly introduced there #1 pick center John Tavares to the NY media and a couple hundred Islander fans.  I would say there was about 250-350 people there.  Toward the end people got a John Ta-var-es chant going as well as a lets go islanders chant.  All the media questions basically came after the conference ended excluding around 3 one was about captaincy another was some ranger hag from SNY1 asking him if he was discouraged to come to a team who hasn’t had much success in the last 15-20 years citing the fan base and the “world class” goalie across the river.  Tavares handled him like it was second nature.

NOTE: Garth Snow told Chris Botta that he kicked the tires on Alexi Kovalev.  What I want to know is wouldn’t that go against his theory?  I am happy he looked his way and hope he looks at Alex Tanguay.  One more thing with regard to the rumor out there of Ed Jovanoski coming here for a package of Andy Sutton plus.  I don’t see it happening because last year we had a trade in place to get him but he has a NTC and declined to come here so why would he now?  I would welcome him with open arms and could be dead wrong with what I am saying but that is what I think.
