Tanguay update!

According to BD Gallof from islandersindependent.com the Tanguay sweepstakes he believes is down to three teams.  Those are the Sabres, the Islanders, and Toronto.  He believes that he is seeking an extra year.  To view the rest click the link below:

Is Tanguay a good fit?

Given the recent report from the sun-sentinal we figured we would examine if Tanguay would be a good potential fit in the 09-10 Islander starting lineup and our conclusion is yes.  For our reasons see below:

1) He is a LW who has a good finishing ability and is a playmaker which is something we lack especially at LW.

2) He would be a great linemate for Tavares.  Him and Weight on his line man Tavares would get some nice passes from two of the top playmakers in the NHL.

3) Mentor for the kids, while he isn’t 35 years old Tanguay is 29 years old and was drafted 12th overall in the 1998 draft and at age 21 got the game winning goal of the Stanley Cup while on the Avelanche.  He may not be Guerin or Weight old but he has been around and has plenty of expierence and is at the right age to where he could be around for the long haul.

4) His playoff expierence, given we probably won’t be a playoff team this year and assuming we sign him longer then 1 or 2 years his expierence in the playoffs will help us out when we get their because most of our kids wouldve have not played in the playoffs.

Some may say because of his injury last year we should stay away from him.  To them I say look at the stats.  Outside of last season in no season in his NHL career has Tanguay missed substantial time.  The fewest games he has played in outside of last season is 69 in 03-04 the year prior to the lock-out.

For the reasons stated above I think he would be a good fit with the Islanders.  When was the last time an Islander forward got 70-80 points?  I will tell you in 06-07 Jason Blake got 69 points otherwise it has been  a while.  Imagine having two people in one season get 70 + points?  As Larry The Cable Guy would say Garth Snow “Get er done!”

Tanguay close?

According to the sun sentinal Alex Tanguay maybe close to signing a contract.  It has been said that he has been talking to about 5 or 6 teams and if you believe anything you have read online then you know one of those teams seems like its the Islanders.  I wonder if it is the Isles he is close to signing with?  To view the full article from the sun sentinal click the link below:

Who needs an enforcer?

In a recent interview with Chris Botta our own Joel Rechlicz said he wants to be that guy.  To view the full interview click the link below:

I love his attitude and determination but in my opinion I think we should sign someone like Andre Roy and call Wrecker up when he is needed to give him some time in the A to develop.  Afterall he is only 22
