Recap of the Hearing! Sparks fly!

Well here is a small recap of todays happenings.  For a full recap visit islanderspointblank.com, lettherebelighthouse.com amd the official blog of the Lighthouse.

  •  There will be 24.5 acres of green space including 2.69 acres around the omni and eab plaza
  •  I now know the height of all buildings on the site
  • The Council most notibly Anthony Santino hadn’t read the environmental statement.  Correct me if I am wrong but isn’t that his job?
  • Wang finally lost his cool on Anthony Santino after he badgered his expert for multiple hours asking for answers for questions that there weren’t answers to.  When he was interrupted he pounded the table and asked to let him finish sounding very frustrated.
  • Overall it seemed like a good day but we did see that there is opposition out there.  Given they don’t really have much facts and what not but suprisingly they do exist.  For the first time more then 2 people spoke instead of just speaking in there local magazines.

As I said for a more detailed recap you can visit islanderspointblank.com, lettherebelighthouse.blogspot.com and the official blog of the lighthouse whose link can be found on the side bar.

Coming probably tomorrow an entry on Anthony Santino

Nimbys show up!

Well today at the Adams playhouse in Hofstra University the rezoning hearing for the Lighthouse Project took place.  While there was a ton of supporters many Nimbys from Garden City showed up!  Including our “friend” Denis Donnely.  They kept saying why this is such a bad thing and would take away from the down-towns and stuff of that nature.  Mayor Rothchild even had the audacity to question the developers about how 300,000 sq feet of office space wouldn’t compete with Garden City.  The first couple that spoke were booed when they finished and Ms Murray asked everyone to be respectful like they were at the 8-4 meeting.  Additionally she gave them extra time.  Lighthouse supporters were limited to around two minutes and got headaches from that d@mn bell they rang every 5 seconds if they weren’t done.  Meanwhile the people from Garden City got 6 + minutes with no objection from the board.
