Mediator on the Horizon?

According to Newsday high ranking officials of the Long Island Regional planning commission are attempting to act as mediators to help Charles Wang and Kate Murray get past there differences to get the Lighthouse done for the betterment of Long Island.  This is great to see, and what I want to know is why now?  Why not last week or 2 weeks ago or a month ago?  I call some of Mike Deerys quotes in the article into question:

1) “Deery accused Suozzi, a Democrat, of “playing politics” and denied the town was throwing up roadblocks.”

Is he serious?  Firstly while Suozzi may not be an angel him and his group of hired guns made the term playing politics famous throughout this process.  Secondly what does he call refusing to be in the same room as the developer for almost six months?  What does he call it when a majority of the board whose JOB it is to read the EDGIS doesn’t do it.  I call it being lazy and putting up roadblocks.  The only time you ever see them out of there offices is when they have a chance to get on a cover of a newspaper for bringing in goats to eat the grass or stuff of that nature.  This will lead to my second quote

2) “Michael Deery, a spokesman for the town, said “we welcome conversations with any people who have anything productive to contribute to the process.”"

The reason they welcome conversations is because as I stated above there to lazy to do it themselves.  They don’t care enough about the project or the future of this great area to repeatedly meet with the developers and try to make this thing work!!  Instead they have to have a big fancy organiztion come in and tell them to meet with them and hold their hand on the way to the meeting and on the way back to the office.  Will they ever be able to do anything on there own?

By the way for those that don’t know Mike Deery is a spokesman for the Town of Hempstead as it says in the quote.
