 Update (11/4 @ 4:24 P.M.) : The culprit Michael Liambas has been suspended for the rest of the 09-10 OHL season including playoffs.  I am happy to see that the OHL got this right!

In case you don’t know what happened I will give you a brief summary below:

In an OHL game on Friday October 30th 16 year old defenseman Ben Fanelli of the Kitchener Rangers in the OHL was hit viciously from behind by Michael Liambas.  The hit sent Ben very hard into the boards knocking his helmet on the ice.  He stayed still for 40 minutes before being escorted off the ice on a stretcher and then was airlifted to the hospital where he remains in critical condition.  The hit caused him to get a fractured skull and orbital bone as well as facial lacerations.  I read that his mom was in attendance and passed out at the site of her injured son and had to be revived.  To see the hit click the link below:

Now onto the culprit Michael Liambas!!  He has been suspended indefinitely from the OHL.  In case you don’t know he has a history of hitting with the intent to injure including hitting Islander star rookie forward John Tavares from behind in last years playoffs.  This guy is 20 years old playing with teenagers.  In the opinion of us here at savetheisles this man needs to be suspended 1 year minimum from OHL play and he can’t play professional hockey anywhere in the US or Canada during the suspension.  To see the hit on Tavares click the link below:

Tonight the Islanders kept things rolling with a 3-1 win over the Oilers to get their fourth in a row and points in 6 straight games.  Here are some notes from the game:

-Better crowd then expected with the Yankees in the World Series
-Brendan Witt coming up with some timely goals
-Andy Sutton finally realized he is able to hit people and that he is actually pretty good at it
-JT returing to the goal column
-The maturation of Kyle Okposo
-Great play by Roloson

Tonight at the Nassau Coliseum the New York Islanders will play host to Steve Tambellini and the Edmonton Oilers.  Expect the same lineup for tonight as the last few games and hopefully we can extend our streak to four in a row.  Dwayne Roloson will be in net tonight going up against his former team who he played for, for the last three years including leading them to the 06 Cup finals.
