Update: According to Philly.com goalie Ray Emery will make his 7th straight start for the Flyers today.
Tomorrow our New York Islanders will be traveling to the Wachovia center to take on Mike Richards and the Flyers. The Isles are dressing enforcer Trevor Gillies for this game so expect a roster move to get him in the lineup. Expect Dwayne Roloson to start in net, if you want to know who is being scratched for Gillies check pointblank or newsday tomorrow. Although we haven’t beaten the Flyers in what seems like forever we really really need this game so hopefully lightning can strike and we can get the badly needed 2 pts from this game!

With the Olympics coming up I figured now would be as good a time as any to do this. Do you think the Olympics should be for amateur players only? Or do you enjoy having the professionals there? I am split on this because while it is cool and fun watching the best players in the world compete against each other. For their teams it must be nerve wrecking because of the prospect of injury. I don’t know about you but when Okposo wasn’t selected for the Olympics sure I was disappointed for him but I was sort of happy to because knowing our luck he would’ve went there and gotten some freak injury and been out 2 months. So I will ask again do you feel that the Olympics should be for amateur athletes only?

Yesterday the Supervisor appeared before the Garden City Chamber of Commerce. Here is what she had to say about the Lighthouse taken from a Garden City magazine the link of which can be found on the bottom of the page:
“As for the Lighthouse proposal, the Hempstead town board is the ultimate zoning authority in the approval process.
Principles Charles Wang and Scott Rechler hope to transform the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum site and its surrounding area into a “modern 24/7 suburban center” with a revitalized arena for the New York Islanders. The project includes mixed-use residential housing, retail and entertainment venues, Class A office space, a multi-purpose athletic complex, minor league ballpark and the first 5-star hotel on Long Island.
“From the moment we received Mr. Wang’s and Mr. Rechler’s application, we were excited about the prospect of good, sane development at the coliseum HUB area,” Supervisor Murray said. ”Despite at times very intense advocacy on both sides of the issue, I think we have chartered a very steady course … I think we have taken our job as the ultimate zoning authority with regard to this project very seriously.”
In the two years the town has had the application, Murray said councilmembers have been concerned about a number of issues raised through its environmental analysis.
“The traffic issues, the water issues, the quality of life issues that surround a project of this size can’t be taken lightly,” the supervisor said. Numerous issues have been raised, including enough water and electricity to accommodate such a large project, as well as traffic congestion and how the proposed retail would affect local downtowns.
“I want to be clear, the town board has never uttered privately or publicly that they do not want to see any development at the coliseum,” Murray said. “The coliseum is really an ugly eyesore. It needs some good development. It needs some sane development. We just want to make sure that the quality of life for those residents who are surrounding the coliseum area and beyond are taken care of as well.”
Murray noted that with the change in the county legislature and administration, with Ed Mangano now at the helm, Wang and Rechler have to “do some homework.”
“They don’t have a lease in place. There was a memorandum of understanding between former county executive [Tom] Suozzi and Mr. Wang and Mr. Rechler. They have some issues that they have to deal with on the county level,” Murray noted. “On the town level, we’ll continue to do our environmental analysis to work towards a successful resolution of this issue.”
Resident John Pittoni told Murray the Lighthouse project should be scrapped. “When you go to different communities, you see stores vacant … ‘For Sale’ signs … While Uniondale may benefit [from the Lighthouse project], ever other school district and every other municipality will be adversely affected.”
Murray assured that as the town continues reviewing the Lighthouse application, these issues won’t be ignored.
“While business climate and business success for particular downtown districts like Garden City and others is not a part of the environmental analysis that we, by law, have to undertake, you can’t ignore it,” the supervisor said.
“That is always going to be part of the back drop, part of the sub-text, part of the larger issues we as town board must consider … Rest assured we are not immune to those kinds of issues. We can’t be. We would not be doing our job in a holistic manner if we were ignoring the economic signs and detriments to this project. I assure you we are,” Murray added.”
To me this is nothing we haven’t heard before including the GC Nimby not wanting this to get done. She says they are taking it seriously when everyone knows that they just look for any little thing to delay the process. Look at the FGEIS there were reports that they found over 200 errors with it. Of which the Lighthouse said that they only found 19 to be worth changing as a majority of them were spelling errors. All I have to say is they really need to get their head out of their collective politically corrupt a**e* and get this done already!!!!!

Imagine how it feels to travel with the team and practice with the team but when it comes to game time, your sitting up in the press box. The urge to play now is greater then ever now since the Islanders are entering the playoff push. How can you stay positive and never put your head down. I have not heard any stories within the past few months about Jeff bringing teammates down or having a negative attitude in the locker room. For that alone Mr. Tambellini should be applauded.

But what should the Islanders do with Jeff. If you put him through waivers, you almost know a team will claim him cause the guy still has some upside and potential. When he is not scoring in regulation time, he almost certain to put one home in the shootout. With the speed and ability he has Jeff will not clear waivers. The Islanders know he has trade value but the question is how much? A mid round draft pick would be my guess. Do you risk the chance of letting Jeff go and have him score 20 goals a season with another team.
I feel bad for the guy and how could you not. Sometimes I feel that the Islanders should just let him go. Trade him for a draft pick and let Jeff play somewhere else where he would get the opportunity, he certainly is not getting it here. The Isles have a lot of thinking and decisions to make and the Tambellini factor should be near the top of the list.
